Skilled Immigration Act

At the 1.3.2020 the so called Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz – FEG (Skilled Immigration Act) comes into force. According to this act the regulations to apply for a residence permit as a student and as a skilled worker are revised. The third and fourth sections of the German residence act now include the following residence permits:

§ 16a AufenthG professional training
§ 16b AufenthG studies
§ 16d AufenthG recognition of foreign education
§ 16e AufenthG study related internship
§ 16f AufenthG language course and school education
§ 17 AufenthG search for a place to train or a university place
§ 18a AufenthG skilled workers with a professional training
§ 18b AufenthG skilled workers with a higher education degree
§ 18c AufenthG settlement permit for skilled workers
§ 18d AufenthG researcher
§ 18f AufenthG mobile researchers
§ 19 AufenthG ICT-Card
§ 19b AufenthG mobile ICT-Card
§ 19c AufenthG other employments
§ 19d AufenthG residence permit for qualified toleration owners
§ 19e AufenthG participation at the European voluntary service
§ 20 AufenthG job seeking for skilled workers
§ 21 AufenthG self-employment

If you already have a valid residence permit it stays valid after the 1.3.2020. When you apply for the next extension of your residence permit the application will be checked after the new regulations.

If you travelled to Germany with a valid visa your application to get a residence permit will be checked after the new regulations after February 2020.

If you are abroad and interested in a stay in Germany you can ask the German embassy in your home country what kind of stay is possible for you. If you need help with the search of a job or a place to train, you can ask the Bezirksregierung Köln.

Employers can apply for the accelerated skilled workers procedure if the entry into Germany will occur for one of the following reasons: professional training, recognition of foreign education, skilled employment.
