The Peace of Westphalia is of course deeply rooted in the cities DNA and perhaps more visibly in the monument landscape of Münster.

By hosting this year’s nationwide opening of the Open Monument Day ® we pay a special tribute to the many monuments Münster has to offer.

Open Monument Day ® is Germany's largest cultural event, and is hosted by a different city each year at the turn of the year. The German Foundation for Monument Protection is the organizing body, and operates under the patronage of the Federal President, in cooperation with the host city.

Visitors can expect a high profile stage program on the Lambertikirchplatz, accompanied by a exposition showcasing to present the achievements and potential of monument protection. In addition, countless monuments around the city will be open, with owners and preservationists offering expert tours. A special focus will be on otherwise inaccessible "lost places" as well as monuments in particular need of renovation, with information providing special explanations of the work of historic preservation.
